Peacefully, at home in Auchterarder. Pat passed away in her sleep after the briefest illness. The youngest of three children to Lillias Stuart Wood and Thomas Baird Wood, Pat grew up in Prestwick, Ayrshire, alongside her elder siblings Bill (95 and still going) and Evelyn (d. 2017 aged 89).
After an idyllic early childhood blighted only by the early death of her beloved father (d. 1944), Pat nevertheless thrived at Prestwick High School, excelling in a number of sports, including tennis and golf.
While accompanying her sister to work at the Hillsborough Co. Down Agricultural Research Institute she met agricultural chemist Stanley (d. 2022, aged 93) who she married in 1955. Pat and Stanley had four children (George Michael (b. 1956), Thomas Stanley (b. 1957), Peter James (b. 1960) and John Patrick (b. 1968).
After spouse Stanley retired from full-time work in Belfast, Pat and Stanley eventually moved from their home at Rickamore, Templepatrick, Co. Antrim, to Auchterarder, Perthshire, in 1990, where Pat enjoyed perhaps her happiest days.
Survived by her brother, her four sons, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Join us in celebrating Pat's life with a memorial service at Perth Crematorium, Wednesday 17th December at 1:30pm, followed by a reception at Auchterarder Golf Club from 3pm.
